As a practicing veterinarian and tax payer, I DO NOT feel that there is a need for FEDERAL LEGISLATION requiriring veterinarians to notify clients of ther right to fill their prescriptions at the pharmacy of their choice! Federal legislation!... Seriously! Requiring the FTC to implement and enforce legislation brought foward by lobbyist for online pharmacies and Wal-Mart...a waste of our tax dollars! My clients already know that they can get perscriptions filled at the pharmacy of their choice! Most of my food animal clients buy their pharmaceuticals direct from distributors with my perscriptions.
I feel that the Federal Government's involvement with veterinary pharmaceuticals should be limited to ensuring products are safe, effacaceous, humanely developed and do not pose a threat to the human food supply. The government already has in place the USDA and FDA to implement and enforce exhisting lesislation. We don't need more legislation in our free market society...we need to spend our tax dollars wisely and not try to legislate common sense!
