This bill requiring all veterinarians to write a prescription for all medications prescribed is wrong on so many fronts.
Veterinarians are the only one’s trained in veterinary pharmaceuticals and the reactions /interactions in the various species we care for. Having a pharmacist fill the veterinary prescriptions will lead to a lot of injuries and deaths that would otherwise be avoided by veterinarians dispensing and tracking their medications.
From an economic point this bill is very bad for small business. Veterinarians rely on the dispensing of pharmaceuticals as an income stream. There is nothing wrong with this just as there is nothing wrong with only veterinarians performing dentistry or surgery or diagnostics on animals.
Veterinarians do respect the wishes of clients that ask for written prescriptions; in fact it is part of the accepted ethical code to write prescriptions if clients request them.
I strongly disapprove the passing of this bill.
