Speaking as a Dermatology Physician Assistant, I believe that UV based tanning salons should be outlawed in the United States. The evidence produced by the medical community over the years is overwhelmingly conclusive that Ultra Violet (UV) light causes skin cancer. Light is light no matter the source (sun vrs tanning bed). Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma account for the largest number of cancers in the world and can be directly tied to sun exposure. The indoor tanning community is a plague to public health and the fact that we still allow our citizens to expose themselves to such a destructive process defies common sense.
