I was recently diagnosed with stage 1 Melanoma. I was 38 years old. I always hated laying out in the sun and never did. I do not ever remember being severely burned as a kid or teenager. I started using a tanning bed on a regular basis in my late teens or early twenties. I would tan at least three times a week and most of the time, five to six times a week. I owned my own bed. I believe that tanning beds caused my Melanoma. By the time I heard how bad they were I ways already addicted to them and as a teen wouldn't listen to the warnings. I will never let my two daughters tan under the age of 18 and hope they learn from my mistakes and stay out of them.
