The problem of child id theft is still vastly misunderstood and understated. I would like to see some further studies go into this problem to evaluate the following: The census (though I doubt we will get a true number) of cases- in two categories, those found before the child turns 18 and those discovered after the child turns 18. Second- information on the perpetrator. What is the true ratio of family perpetrators vs unknown perpetrators. Again it may be impossible to get accurate numbers but any numbers are better than none. ITRC is doing that work now but our case numbers may be slanted due to the clients we attract. Perhaps if we put all our case histories together we may see a more accurate true picture.
