Comments:I am submitting this comment to agree with the proposed rule change to 16 CFR Part 610. As a consumer it is frustrating to here an advertisement for something free to find out there is a cost associated with it. Although I have never visited any of the advertised free credit report sites I can see how the average consumer can confuse them with the federal mandated site AnnualCreditReport.com. Also, having recently obtained my free annual credit reported on AnnualCreditReport.com. The advertisements presented by all three reporting agencies were confusing. If I had not read the advertisement thoroughly; I would have been misled that the subscription to the services offered would be required to receive my free report. In reference to section 610.2 of the rule it is my understanding that AnnualCreditReport.com is maintained by and paid for by the three major crediting agencies, and advertising services help defray the cost. However, this is a federally mandated program so I feel advertisement for specific services should not be allowed. I feel it should be limited to a single link to the specific agencies web site where services can be purchased. Something similar to "For more information on (agencies name here) and to purchase credit monitoring service or your credit score please visit (web site URL and link here)" only after the free report has been attained.
