|Rule:||16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures|
Comments:Please enable consumers to make informed decisions about their credit by placing restrictions on "Free credit report" advertisers. These advertisers mislead people. Many consumers are still unaware that they are entitled to a free credit report from each credit reporting agency every year and thus believe that they must go through freecreditreport.com or some other website to obtain their credit report. When I have talked to people about this issue, they are under the impression that the commercials are synonymous with the free reports allowed by law. They are then confused when the offers require enrollment in a credit protection program. It needs to be made clear that these credit score companies have nothing to with consumers' rights to a free yearly credit report.
