|Agency:||Federal Trade Commission|
|Rule:||16 CFR Part 610 Amendments to Rule to Prevent Deceptive Marketing of Credit Reports and to Ensure Access to Free Annual File Disclosures|
Comments:My wife and I were unknowningly being charged last month on our credit cards by FreeCreditReport.com and ExperianDirect for getting Free Credit Reports online. Here are my complaints regarding Both Companies and their websites: 1) Neither Company diplays clearly that they are a fee-collecting private company, not part of any Federal Agency. 2) When we called the Companies to dispute the charges, the representatives stated that the online monitoring services would be automatically subscribed whenever we requested for Free Credit Reports until we cancelled later on. That was obviously a deceptive practice because I remember I did select an option for free credit report only. Also, if whatever they said were true, it was NOT clearly displayed at all. I just don't remember I have ever read any statements like that. 3) If any fees to be charged for any additional services, I suggest that the Website must state clearly a) a warning prior to selecting such an option, b) how much and how long, c) terms and conditions. Thanks for your attention.
