I am glad to see initiative being taken to address/correct this issue. However, I would like to see these guidelines be mandatory vs. voluntary.
Foods marketed to kids should focus on the first 5 ingredients - they should include veg/gruit/whole grain - items with nutritional value.
1.) 'Enriched' anything shouldn't exist - we whole foods weren't stipped down to nothing, there would be no need to add anything back in.
2.) Sugar (or worse, a syrup substitute) should NEVER be a main ingredient
3.) Foods should not be riddled with artificial ingredients (most can't be pronounced).
4.) The sodium content is processed foods is unbelievable - more than 2000MG in deli lunch packs?
I understand parents chose what their kids eat, I also understand too many parents cave into what their kids want vs. what is best for them. If you look at American adults today, we are making BAD choices and teaching our kids to make BAD choices.
Hopefully is we can market healthier eating options to kids, we will raise healthier adults who will raise our future generations
