Siemer Milling Company, a producer of wheat flour, objects to the Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles for Food Marketed to Children for the following reasons:
1) The federal government has no place directing, or even "suggesting," the content of advertising for inherently safe and legal products, except to require that it is basically accurate. Such efforts are coercive, and contrary to the principle of free expression.
2) Government does not have enough information to ensure that its principles will not result in unintended consequences harmful to the innocent parties involved.
3) Our products are wholesome, nutritious, and essential to physical and mental well-being. It is not within the scope of the government's concern for the general welfare to attempt to restrict their consumption.
