I am in favor of the voluntary guidelines being proposed by the Interagency Working Group. I believe foods marketed to children should meet the proposed guidelines. Children are easily manipulated and these ads create demands for the unhealthy, highly processed foods being advertised. Because of diets that include these highly processed foods containing too much fat, sugar, and salt, the next generation is suffering conditions and diseases usually contracted in later adulthood. These include obesity, diabetes, and others. The food and advertising industries are shameless in their opposition to these guidelines. I agree with the nutritional guidelines and the definitions regarding marketing being proposed. Please include them in your report to Congress and encourage Congress to pass these guidelines. Protecting the well being of children is one of the responsibilities of our government.
