As a parent and grandparent I have been concerned about the marketing of food and beverages targeting our nations children for years. Advertisements run daily have a great influence on these innocent, unsuspecting future leaders and all to often seducing them into unhealthy choices. This is why I am pleased and in agreement with the proposed guidelines on how the foods outlined in the Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulatory Efforts are advertised to my grandchildren and children everywhere. When these voluntary guidelines are finalized, I would find it important for independent reporting to be made available to the public, measuring how the industry is adopting and adhering to these guidelines. I want the food and beverage industry to be as accountable for the health of this great nation as I have been for the health of my children and now for the health of my grandchildren.
