As a parent, I’m interested in raising happy, healthy children, and I’m concerned about the food and beverage marketing directed specifically at my children. Have you seen how many commercials are just in a 30 minute television show? The majority have to do with fast food and sugar laden cereals, snacks and beverages. I am in agreement with the proposed guidelines on how the foods outlined in the Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulatory Efforts are advertised to my children. In addition, since these guidelines are voluntary, I would like for independent reporting to be made available to the public, measuring how the industry is adhering to these guidelines. I want the food and beverage industry to be as accountable for the health of our nation as I am for the health of my children. When these guidelines are finalized, I expect the industry to adopt them. I don’t want my kids to be seduced into consuming trash anymore.
