As a parent, I’m interested in raising happy healthy children and I’m concerned about the food and beverage marketing directed specifically at my children. I am in agreement with the proposed guidelines on how the foods outlined in the Preliminary Proposed Nutrition Principles to Guide Industry Self-Regulatory Efforts are advertised to my children.
In addition, since these guidelines and principles are voluntary, I would like for independent reporting to be made available to the public, measuring how the industry is adhering to these guidelines. If minimal changes occur in public health, specific to obesity to the age group being affected by these advertisements after a set period of time, I would like for Congress to reconsider restoring the FTC’s authority in food and beverage advertising and marketing to children prior to 1980 when their authority was stripped due to corporate pressure. I want to make the food and beverage industry just as accountable for the health of our nation as I am for my children's health.
I don’t want my kids to be seduced into consuming trash anymore.
