Each dollar spent on an ad for high sugar, high fat content food and beverage should be matched and deposited into a healthy food marketing campaign to counter balance the negative effects of advertising junk food to our kids. The government could then take this "healthy ad" pot of funds, hire a marketing firm and place ads for unprocessed food that has a much lower profit margin, such as blueberries, apples, carrots and almonds. It's either that or require manufacturers to contribute to a "death by obesity" fund to help alleviate the health care costs we are all burdened with because of this completely irresponsible advertising and production of nutritionally vacant food for our children.
Ads for food that exceed 20% the RDA for sugar or trans fat should contain a warning label in the form of a photo of a morbidly obese person.
While showcasing junk food ads, such as sugary breakfast cereals with healthy fruit is a good first step, even better would be a peel off coupon on the exterior of the box of that sugary cereal to receive FREE berries with the purchase of the cereal.
Prohibit junk food ads during the week-ends.
