I think more than a year is too long for consumers on the East Coast to have to wait to request a free credit report. If the requests can be made on-line, why can't it be "first come first served" and just handle the requests as quickly as possible in the order they are received. Yes, there would be a backlog at the beginning of the process, but it would be more fair than the current proposal by region. I would not oppose the regional process, if it were handled more quickly. But this legislation passed in December of 2003 and I would not be able to request my free credit report until September of 2005 (almost 2 years later!). That is not acceptable.
