Submission Text
Any loosening of regulations or of language allowing debt collectors more leeway to collect from people at this time in their life when they are already overwhelmed and grieving is a terrible mistake. As a credit counselor, I often hear accounts of how debt collectors abuse individuals on the phone. Although I do recommend these individuals make an official complaint to the FTC, that rarely seems to happen. This proposed change would allow (perhaps even encourage) collectors to take advantage of individuals who may well not be responsible for the debt.
