I urge the FT to update the current COPPA rules to make it applicable to the more sophisticated web environment to which children are exposed today.
Many Online marketing firms are using highly sophisticated, technical tools to unwittingly get information to and from our unsuspecting children and young adults today.
This is unethical, unscrupulous and is an invasion of privacy for our children.
At the least, The COPPA Rule should clarify that operators must ask parents’ permission before they collect:
Children’s IP addresses
Children’s relocation information
Children’s screen and user names
Photographs and videos of children
Please take action now to keep the COPPA rules relevant and effective to protect the rights of our youngest citezens . Thank you,
