As a dry cleaner for over 33 years, I can safely say that care labeling is essential to the dry cleaning industry. The current symbol system works very well but I think some uniformity as to location, size, what the are made off, and font size would greatly help the textile care industry. We constantly use these to determine the best possible care for the garment. We can also become liable for any damages if we do not properly care for a garment. I also believe that they should show if can or cannot be wet cleaned or can or cannot be dry cleaned not just one method of cleaning. A dry cleaner can go much farther in restoring a garment if he or her knows these things. Currently the law just requires one method only. Please take these things in consideration when making any changes to the FTC rule on care labeling.
