Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, I am in full support of your efforts to eliminate, or at least reduce, the problem of unsolicited bulk email. However, I am worried about suppression lists. I must urge you to look at this matter very carefully .There are many, many potential problems which could flow from this idea and cause much damage to both consumers and businesses alike. The use of suppression lists will seriously damage many of the legitimate publications available on the net. There is the possibility of great harm even to publishers who already require permission from consumers prior to adding them to any list. I cannot believe that is who CAN-SPAM was intended to drive out of business, but this requirement will very probably do just that. There's also the potential for significant harm to consumers who may not be aware of the result of unsubscribing from a list. It seems to me that spammers would love to get their hands on suppression lists, as they would be lists of live email addresses. It s almost inevitable that they will and the result would be more spam not less. I was very surprised at all the potential problems this ruling could generate. So I want to very strongly urge you to reconsider. Yours truly, Robert James Morrow The Connectors Group Limited Oshawa, Ontario, Canada
