Re : CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No.R411008 To the Commissioners Although I am a strong advocate for your efforts to put an end to the issue of unsolicited bulk email, I am, however, concerned about the proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists. Due to the costs and problems with regard to this idea with enormous damage done to businesses alike and consumers that I would require that you reconsider this issue most appropriately. The requirement of the use of suppression lists will inevitably damage many of the legitimate businesses on the net, especially publishers that require permission from the consumers prior to adding them to any list. There is also a likelihood of the suppression lists ending up in the hands of the spammers leading to more spam instead. Respectfully, Jonathan Ofei Bucks, United Kingdom
