Subject: CAN-SPAM Act, suppression list idea @@ Dear Commissioners, @@ The idea of suppression lists is not the craziest idea I've ever heard of, but close to it! I've been studying Affiliate marketing for a couple of years. Of course, I plan to build my own list of subscribers by various acceptable means. Managing a subscriber list is scary enough. Even with a valid list, it's possible to get complaints that can cause trouble with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). @@ Reducing unsolicated commercial email is something I'm interested in. Though honestly, I have found ways of dealing with it outside of legal requirements. Changing email addresses is easy to do and an effective way of eliminating unwanted email, at least for awhile. Additionally, there are various programs that are quite good at screening email for unwanted messages.@@ However, maintaining national suppression lists for email is totally impractical. There must be millions of businesses who use email as part of their business communication with clients. Businesses should maintain their own subscription lists and quickly honor an requests from their customer, or contacts, to unsubscribe from future email communication. To think that millions of businesses can somehow coordinate entries on a suppression list is lunacy.@@ I strongly encourage you to scrap the suppression list idea from the CAN-SPAM Act, Project No. R411008.@@ Respectfully,@@ Doug DeBruin@@ United States, Michigan@@
