I understand there has been some discussion about whether removal links are misused to generate more spam. The answer is clearly yes. For example, I created a separate email account used only to complain about spam. Tonight, when I went to that account, I had 368 spam messages in the account. There are several hundred spam messages each time I access the account. I do not use the account for any other purpose and do not register for any goods or services using that address. Thus, not only is the opt-out provision of the CAN-SPAM act a joke because I would have to spend 24 hours a day opting-out, past (and current) history suggests opting out will simply increase the volume of spam we receive.
