Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, Your conern about spam is not out of place. As an Internet user and marketer, I'm just as concerned as you are. So, whatever steps you take to rid the Internet of this madness is accepted by me. But we must be careful not to throw away the baby along with the bath water. Which I believe your proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists could lead to. Genuine businesses, like mine, and the community that I'm catering to their needs will unneccassasirly be put at a disadvantage if what you currently propose stands as it is. Suppression lists requirement, without doubt, will have negative impact on publishers who require permission from the consumer prior to adding them to any list. And these are obviously NOT the target of CAN-SPAM. Kindly reconsider the issue so that genuine businesses are not put out of business. The Internet is providing means of livelihood to individuals around the world and taking the pressure of unemployment off governments in different countries. A law that hampers this positive development is not going to help anyone. Yes, let's rid the 'Net of these crazy scammers but let's find a way of doing it without hurting the interest of those who respect the privacy of others in their mode of operation. With my highest regards, Sunny Obazu-Ojeagbase Lagos, NIGERIA
