Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 While I am largely in favor of the efforts to reduce the impact of unsolicited bulk mail, I take serious issue with the proposed idea of "suppression lists" for merchants. I believe that the use of suppression lists will seriously harm many legitimate online businesses, particularly businesses who maintain their own in-house, opted-in mailing lists. This suppression list concept will very likely have an adverse effect on businesses that are otherwise in compliance with CAN-SPAM provisions. As on online marketing entrepreneur myself, I would urge you to strongly reconsider the ramifications of such a ruling, and the resulting negative impact on otherwise legitimate online businesses.
