The idea of suppression lists is very bad and will hurt me as a consumer. If I unsubscribe from Company A's list that has no bearing on my desire or lack of desire to receive email from other companies, associates or affiliates who may choose to mention Company A in their products. I The use of suppression lists, beyond requiring an individual merchant to honor unsubscribes to their own list will hurt me as a consumer and mean I will not have access to ifnormation and services I want. The idea that the CAN spam act could be interpreted in this way is very worrisome. Also, just because I unsubscribe today I may want to subscribe again next week. There are many reasons for unsubscribing: -- change of email address - travel, illness, or broken computer and don't want a backlog when you get online etc. the most that should be required is opt-in or double optin by each list independent of all other lists. To do anything more will not address the real issue of spam. The government should not waste it's time on that--it should go after the guys who are going to spam regardless of how strict the rules are. Anything else is a waste of the taxpayer's money. sincerely Mark Reinert
