Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, I support efforts to control unsolicited bulk email. However, I believe that internet marketing is here to stay, and hope that whatever regulations enacted will not be overly influenced by the popular anger of the moment. Bulk emails that are truly unsolicited should be eliminated in a way that does not place undue burdens on legitimate business. There are problems associated with bulk unsolicited email, as there are with telemarketing. This is not to say that there are no positive benefits whatsoever. Please make an effort to recognize, and keep possible, any public benefits that email marketing could provide. It would be wonderful if you can protect people from unsolicted commercial email, and provide easy and speedy opt-out mechanisms, but please, in your zeal to do the right thing, try not to exagerate this one of many minor inconveniences that are an unfortunate by-product of technological progress. Please be deliberate before being decisive. Respectfully, Gary M. Feeney *REDACTED PERSONAL INFORMATION*
