Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 Commissioners,et al: I support your efforts to slow down, if not eliminate email spam. But, requiring web businesses to create suppression lists and send them to other emailers would be a disaster, in my opinion. The dishonest would not change their ways, and simply use the lists for their continued spamming. I'm just a consumer that despises spam, but why harm the legimate business with additional expenses when the suppression list idea hasn't a chance to succeed, and will only increase email traffic to the point of desparation. Please consider this proposal carefully and thoughtfully. I receive several useful free newsletters from publishers who respect their addressees by gaining upfront permission to contact them. I can't see burdening them for the misdeeds of others. If this rule puts legitimate publishers out of business, what's the gain? Surely there's a better way to address the problem.
