Comments:
Dear Commissioners, It is good that action is being proposed to curb the problem of unsolicited bulk email. I am, however, concerned about any proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists. Such a proposal sounds time consuming an potentially costly. Business already face too many burdens that consume time for administrative purposes. Also if such lists fall into the hands of spammers, or competitors, more harm will be done. Could you please reconsider the proposals, in respect to the above concerns. I am in Australia, so I do not know if your proposals will affect me. I do, however, believe that even if they do not initially affect me, these things tend to have a flow on affect to Australia and many other nations further down the track. Thanks for your consideration. Yours faithfully, John Stevenson Sydney, Australia
