Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, I admire your attempts to can SPAM; however, DO NOT MAKE LEGITIMATE BUSINESSES SEND OPT-OUT LISTS TO ANYONE! THAT WILL ONLY CREATE MORE SPAM! Furthermore, by asking a legitimate business to send opt-out email to third parties, you're asking them to violate the subscriber's right to privacy. In my view, when I opt-out of someone's email list (as I often do), I don't want my email to go to someone else! I want it to be deleted - permanently. I want it to be NON-EXISTANT! Suppose YOU opted-out of an email list, how would you feel if you received the following email: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Dear Commissioner, "We received your request to opt-out of XYZ Company's email list and wanted you to know that we appreciate your right to opt-out to avoid unsolicited email from entities, such as OURSELVES, who oppose SPAM. We are the Opt-Out Of SPAM Depository Commission and we value your privacy. So if you want to opt-out of our opt-out email list, please send us an email with the words "Opt-Out" in the subject line. (We'll forward your email address to our subsidiaries, so they can forward it to their subsidiary, so that you can continue to opt-out for the rest of your life!)." Sincerely, Reigning Body of Government NOW ISN'T THAT JUST STUPID?!
