Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, While I applaud your efforts to curb spam, I am concerned about your proposal requiring business owners to maintain suppression lists. The problems and costs associated with this proposal would be overwhelming and damaging to those of us issuing legitimate publications that well serve our customers and potential clients. In particular, it would be severely damaging to require publishers to obtain permission prior to adding customers to mailing lists. It could put us out of business altogether. Moreover, suppression lists would comprise excellent fodder for spammers and could lead to even more unwanted email instead of less. Please reconsider your ill-conceived solution to spam, however well meaning. Sincerely, Susan O'Banion Maryland, USA
