Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008 To the Commissioners, Now, I'm really not sure if my tax dollars pay the salaries of everybody at the FTC or not, but it really doesn't matter much in my mind...this entire CAN-SPAM business is a waste of resources. It takes me all of about 2 minutes to quickly review my bulk mailbox for "legit" emails from friends or online businesses (e.g., amazon.com)...and then to trash the rest. I don't see any "CAN-MAIL" acts. Nobody is screaming bloody murder because they are getting junk postal mail...or that the post office keeps raising their rates. If people don't want junk mail...then let them get off the internet. When you watch TV, aren't you subjected to tons of commercials? Sure...people don't like them...but that's just the way it is! So...live with it! With all the filters that are available now...if you really don't want to deal with spam, then buy a filtering system. If the ISP's have to install more servers to handle the mail load...and we all have to pay a few bucks more each month for our internet service...so be it! If people don't want to pay more, then get off the web! This is really very simple...and it's the few "babies" out there who are crying the blues who are costing the rest of us a ton of grief because you're willing to listen to them. Lincoln said it best when he said, "You can please all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time." Something along those lines. So...why are you trying to do so? What happened to freedom of speech and expression in this country? What happened to the days when you could walk outside without having to worry about being sued? This is really just a bunch of nonsense in my mind...there are so many bigger fish to fry out there...like world hunger, the aids situation, the abuse of children, etc. If I had it my way the new CAN-SPAM act would read like this: "SPAM is legal...if you don't like it...get off of the net!" Period...end of story...end of wasted costs, wasted time, wasted resources! Either that, or make this very simple by requiring one and only one thing...a valid remove link. If you don't want more mail from someone...click on the remove link. As I see it, no matter what you do, the people who are the big time spammers are still going to beat the system...and the only people who will be hurt by this are the little guys who are just trying to run a legit business online to make a living! Respectfully, John Leogue
