I pay for telephone and internet service to suit MY purposes and convenice, NOT to provide an opportunity for persons or businesses to solicit me. I do not want telephone or email solicitations from anyone anytime about anything and I should not be subjected to those assaults upon my solitude, privacy, and time. I should have the ability to easily and effectively ensure that my wishes are observed. Some persons complain about jobs that will be lost. GREAT! It can't be soon enough. Let those people find something good to do. I have used Earthlink as my ISP since Feb, 2002. From the beginning I have opted out of contact from Earthlink. In December, 2003, Earthlink, on its own intitiative, changed my opt out settings and started sending me their spam solicitations. I checked my opt out settings immediately upon receipt of the first spam and found the setting showing email conatact allowed. Ichanaed it back to opt out. Ithen returned to the broader screen and saw that now Earthlink showed that I was agreeing to receive snail mail. I chanaged that back to opt out. Upon checking the broader screen, I now found Earthlink showing that email contact was authorized. I changed it back again. And around and around and around we went. Eventually Earthlink stopped changing my settings. Ever since Earthlink just IGNORES my opt out settings, sending me their spam repeatedly. DAMN THE BASTARDS. Put a stop to this type of abuse of the average citizen.
