Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008Dear Sir/MadamI applaud your efforts to curb the problem ofunsolicited bulk email. I am however, extremely concerned aboutthe proposed requirement for merchants to maintainsuppression lists. This process would carry many difficulties and costs and will greatly reduce the amount of busines done by legitimate businesses.CAN-SPAM will harm those who are already scrupulous about gaining permission for emailing and will leave illegal spammers untouched.Added to the danger of spammers getting their hands on suppression lists (which you can be sure will happen), and you have a real recipe for disaster.I respectfully urge you to reconsider the method by which you aim to achieve these laudable aims.SincerelyRoger ElliottEast SussexUnited Kingdom
