Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,I support your efforts to curb the problem ofunsolicited bulk email. However, I am concerned about the proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists. There are so many problems and costs associated with this idea that it will have a significant impact on my business and the industry as a whole. Our ability to fairly market products and services using today's technology will become such a labor intensive process that we will not be able to compete against similar, non-technical methods of marketing such as direct mail. Being a small company, it is critical that we control our costs and maintain high productivity rates just to stay competitive in the market place. In addition, requirement of the use of suppression lists will seriously damage many of the legitimate publications available on the net. Please consider the effects of this matter fully before making a decision. CAN-SPAM may very well put legitimate e-mail marketing services and publications out of business. There's also the potential for significant harm toconsumers. These suppression lists could easily fall into the hands of spammers, leading to more spam instead of less.I urge you in the strongest possible terms to reconsider its implementation in light of these problems.Respectfully,Rolin BassOwnerSelect Web SolutionsRancho Santa Margarita, CA, USA
