Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,Hello:I appreciate what you're trying to do in eliminating SPAM - unsolicited bulk email. However, I am concerned about the proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists. There are so many problems and costs involved that may affect a considerable number of people - individuals as well as businesses. That is why it is so important to weigh ALL considerations carefully before making any final decisions. People who do legitimate business online may be affected in a negative way. They're not who CAN-SPAM was designed to put out of business, but this requirement just might result in that. There's also the potential for significant harm to consumers, because of the problem of properly knowing their intent when they unsubscribe from a list. Besides that, these suppression lists could easily fall intothe hands of spammers, leading to more spam instead of less.It would be greatly appreciated if you would take the time and reconsider this ruling. Please avoid causing any more problems than we already have. Thanks very much!Respectfully,Catherine (Kay) ButlerNH, USA
