Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008Dear Commissioners:I don?t understand the logic behind mine or anyone?s email address being placed on a suppression list simply because we unsubscribe from a mailing list that included ads.Nor do I want this done to my email address without my express permission.I work with people with disabilities. I subscribe to a number of related mailing lists, some of which have product ads in them?products that are definitely of interest to me in my field. I have even requested that some manufacturers send me information as new products come out. However, not all mailing lists are created equal. Some have less value than others so I have un-subscribed from some, expect to subscribe to new ones as they appear?and to unsubscribe from some as not worth my time. This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my interest in products that may be in them.Do you truly think that my un-subscribing from a newsletter should override my direct request to receive information from the advertisers in these newsletters? Do you truly think I never want to hear from Amazon.com, for example, where I buy tons of books, just because someone running a mailing list I un-subscribed from happened to be recommending some books that were available on Amazon??? Good heavens! What a terrible conclusion. Not only that, but I?m sure you must be aware that one of the ways people get on spam lists is by being signed up to receive mail without their express permission. Why on earth would you want to use the same technique - putting me on a list without my express permission. And why on earth do you think I would think that was OK???When I un-subscribe from a mailing list, I do so because I don?t want to receive the mailing list anymore. Why would you assume it means anything more than that? I was utterly astonished to learn that being unknowingly placed on suppression lists was even being considered, and urge you in the strongest possible terms to drop this appalling idea.Best regards,Kendall SimmonsLawrence, KS
