Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,Gentlemen, I applaud your efforts to curb the problem ofunsolicited bulk email. (I hate S-P-A-M, and because of it I do very little business online, but I want to startup again soon, I will not send bulk or spam mail) However, I am concerned aboutthe proposed requirement for merchants to maintainsuppression lists.Should this become law, because there are so many problems and costs associated withthis idea, people like me who want to do honest online business will be finish, and the damage that will be done to consumers andbusinesses alike, I feel I must urge you to carefully re_consider.Requirement of suppression lists willdamage many of the legitimate publicationson the net. My specific concern is this will stop my planned future business expansion. Their must be thousands of people like me who will never get involved with CAN-SPAM and yes the people who does MUST be put out ofbusiness, but this requirement will very likely not havethat effect. There's also the potential for significant harm toconsumers, because of the problem of properly knowingtheir intent when they unsubscribe from a list. On topof that, these suppression lists could easily fall intothe hands of spammers, leading to more spam instead ofless.I wonder if the poeple introducing this has ever stop to consider the potential problems thisruling could involve, therefore I am urging you in the strongestpossible terms to reconsider its implementation in lightof these problems,Respectfully,WinstonSt. Criox
