Re: CAN-SPAM Act Rulemaking, Project No. R411008To the Commissioners,I applaud your efforts to curb the problem ofunsolicited bulk email. However, I am concerned about the proposed requirement for merchants to maintain suppression lists.I respectfully request that you very strongly consider some way other than a blanket suppression list. Many businesses, like mine, have not only advocated and complied with the CAN-SPAM laws, we have avidly encouraged our peers to do likewise. We, ourselves, are victimized by the abuses of those reckless, unscrupulous few who fill the electronic venues with their equivalent of electronic graffiti. But they are very few in number compared to the great many legitimate businesses. like mine, who have built upon and rely upon a clientele who have come to appreciate, as do we, responsible, courteous and highly effective electronic commerce. It would be a shame for the many, again, to be made to pay so great a price for the abuses of the few.I know I speak for myself and my thousands and thousands of e-commerce peers when I say, again:Please consider a much less "broad brush" solution than a blanket suppresion list.I'm sure you will find the e-commerce community more than willing to not only comply but to work with you in forming an effective, equitable solution.Respectfully,Neil ShattlesWinder, GA, USA
