I am speaking out against the FTC proposal. As an Independent Business Owner, I feel it is my right to stand up for the values and ethics I use in operating my own business. This nation was built on the premise that each person had the opportunity to, after careful and thorough consideration, seek their own fortune through the auspices of a free enterprise system. The Declaration of Independence speaks to that premise as each person was (and still is) "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these were...the pursuit of happiness." While they are many persons who come into business opportunities, such as Quixtar, with scurrilous intent, there are many more such persons who, in their pursuit of happiness and freedom, choose to employ this vehicle as a means to provide something more....something better for their families and for future generations. This business is not just about revenue generation. It is also about concepts and values not seen or demonstrated in today's conventional business makeup. Concepts such as leadership, honesty, integrity, accountability, hard work, and the ability to see the worth and value in other people. As an independent business owner, I also am cognizant of the fact that my success is interdependent on my commitment to help others succeed. This goes totally against the "dog eat dog, every man (or woman) for themselves" approach to business.
