Dear Federal Trade Commission Member: I am writing to ask that you reconsider some of the requirements you are proposing to regulate the direct sales industry. I am a PartyLite Consultant who has been proud to be involved with this business for 2 1/2 years. As a widow and single mother, I began my PartyLite business to supplement my full-time work income and was previously struggling paycheck to paycheck. The income I earn through my part-time PartyLite business has allowed me to make several necessary purchases which I would have not otherwise been able to do. Specifically, I have been able to purchase new furniture, have needed dental work done which was not covered by insurance, pay down some credit card debt, and send my son to summer camp. The proposals you are suggesting would make by business much more difficult and possibly impact my income.I am referring, specifically, to your proposed reference requirements as I would not feel comfortable providing the personal contact information of 10 geographically closest PartyLite consultants, whom I do not know and who do not know me. In addition, I would not want my personal information given out randomly to others for contact. PartyLite is a good and legitimate business opportunity which I feel good about sharing - on a one to one personal basis, and I want to continue to introduce this opportunity to others who would benefit as I have. I was personally sponsored by an individual who is not geographically close to me and with whom I have developed not only a professional relationship with, but a close personal friendship bond with as well. When someone I meet wants information about this wonderful business opportunity, I want them to be able to talk to others who have helped ME succeed, not some random stranger who happens to live nearby. One of the things that is so great about this business is that an individual can work as few or as many days as they wish, depending on THEIR personal needs. To have a perspective new consultant get references and income information from an individual who chooses to work their PartyLite business minamally, would be an unfair assessment of the true potential income opportunity. The regulations you are proposing would hinder me from sharing and offering this business opportuntiy to others and would hinder others in starting thier business in the time frame THEY choose. Please know that I am thankful that we have the FTC working to protect consumers such as myself, but in this case, you will be working against me, possibly impacting my income and my family's future. Please reconsider the regulations you are proposing. Respectfully, Jacalyn Rodriguez
