Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing out of deep concern for the Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I understand that your responsibility as the FTC is to protect our public from unfair practices and deception. I also understand where you are coming from, however, prior to your final ruling, please take into consideration the credibilty and track record of the people and the companies this bill will affect the most. I have been with lia sophia Fashion Jewelry for 4 years. It has changed my life and the life of my family to the point that I am able to now stay home and be a REAL MOM. I wish I had gotten involved with this company a 20 years ago. I could remember the times when I had to bring my son to baby sitters before I went to work and only hope that my husband would be getting off of work at 4:00 to be able to pick him up from the sitter or I was in BIG trouble, because at that time I was in the beauty service business and if I had a client booked and in the middle of doing her nails I could not just walk away from her, afterall it was HER nails that was paying for my babysitter. This went on this way thru 4 children. Unfortunately I had to work to help my husband make ends meet, and believe me, we did not live high, we were glad to just be able to pay the mortage and buy food for the family. Then in 2001 I was diagnosed with a severe muscle condition called Dystonia, which I am still battling today. This condition has diabled me to use both my hands at the same time and causes my neck to turn uncontollable. Now with 20 years invested in the service business and not able to move the way I used to and still having the need to work, especially with the kids getting older now, and to Proud to collect Disablity we truely were at our wits end. Then 4 years ago, August 2,2002 the answer to many prayers came thru, even though my oldest is 20 and working, my other children 17,13 and 8 love that I am able to get them up in the morning and a slower pace instead of rushing around, and they love that I am home for them when they come home from school to be able to share their day with ME , not to mention the FAMILY DINNERS ! Even though I am still battling Dystonia I am very proud that this opportunity with lia sophia has given me the power to contribute both to my family and community without going on disabilty. I now have a sales team of 35 people. We have always taken this business opportunity as a very serious commitment , since alot of them come from similiar backgrounds like myself. We believe that because of the Victor Kiam Family who by the way, started this business 30 years ago along with a business plan and a belief to "GO FOR IT" many women and men like myself are given choices to experience a better lifestyle. We are an educated country that needs to understand that choices not rules set us apart from the rest of the world. Every single person can live the "American Dream," a concept this Nation was built on if they choose to, but it takes work, dedication and common sense. With lia sophia we are making a $149.00 investment, which is the cost of the lia sophia's starter kit and holds a retail value of over $700, a small investment, compared to the cost of someone like myself having to depend on disablity a goverment program, not to mention the self pride and empowerment that sometimes people with disabilties lose,it gives us a feeling that we can accomplish anything. I appreciate all your efforts to protect consumers, however with so many people struggling to get out of debt, I would think that this issue would be better directed at those without at history of making a positive difference in so many lives. lia sophia Fashion Jewelry is working to keep our economy healthy. We offer more than just a business opportunity, ask any of us that are apart of this great organization and are tuly living the "American Dream." Thank you for allowing me to have a voice! Respectfully, Connie Serritella
