My name is Michael Young and I live in rural Northern California and I would like to thank you for the opportunity to respond to your proposed rule changes for the direct selling industry. First, in regards to a seven day waiting period before a prospect could register. This proposed rule change would cause unnecessary hardship in building my business. As I mentioned I live in a rural area and if I'm reqiured to make several trips to register a single prospect it would cost me additional money as most cities are about 100 miles from me. If a prospect changes his mind after registering they are intitled to a full refund. A waiting period would also prevent me from begining to share this opportunity to others for them, thus preventing any type of momentum. Secondly , requiring a list of references of 10 other business owners in my opinion would be an invasion of their privacy. It is my common practice to introduce prospects to additional business partners before during and after registering. Some business owners provide optional business development seminars where they can meet hundreds and even thousands of business owners just like them. Thirdly, in a world where many people see winning a lawsuits as a future economic plan for securing financial independece ,it frightens me that requiring a list of all suits filled against the corporation and business owners regardless of whether proven true or not would only give others an incentive make false allegations.Fourthly, our corporation requirs us to make the dislosure of what the average business owner earns this is simple and easy to remember. This should suffice in regards to providing verificationof income claims. Lastly, I should only be required to provide income verification when required by law. I avoid making specific claim as results may vary depending on individual work ethics. Company averages are explained as only what is possible. It should also be noted that when explaining the business model it is explained that if they are looking for a " get rich quick business" that this is not it. Our business requires hard work and your income should be a reflection of your work habits. To close I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to your agency, I know that the proposed rules are meant to protect people from harm. But I belive that these proposed rules would not help because bad people will still not follow the rules and the ones most hurt by these rules will be the honest business owners. I have reach the gold pin level and have a goal of reaching platinum this next year, But my greatest rewards where not monetary but personal I have learn that choose my life. If its to be ,its up to me. My marriage is better than it has been in years and I'm now active in my community and church. I work for the California Dept. of Corrections as a correctional Officer, and I have learned how to listen more which has enabled me to be a more effective communicator. This new ability was not taught to me by anyone except by my business mentors and has prevented me from serious harm at least once. This has been priceless to me and my family. I believe that I will continue to build a more profitable business that will allow me to retire early from corrections and allow me to spend more time with family and firefighteing. thank you for your time. respectfully Michael Young
