My wife and I have had a business associated with Quixtar and its predecessor company for the past 13 years. We have reached the level known as Ruby and the business has provided us with a significant part time income, as well as a valuable personal development program which has enhanced our lives and enabled us to achieve other successes outside this business. We have been able to develop deep long lasting relationships with people who have joined us in the business. I have read the FTC proposals and have comments on several issues. I do not believe the 7 day waiting period accomplishes anything. If someone is eager to get started, 7 days provides just enough time for lifes challanges to wear then down so they get discouraged about taking on another activity that in reality will help them. Quixtar sign up fee is only $45 , which is not a significant investment. In fact it cost more for a Costco membership. I would only introduce that requirements when the cost to join is significant, say over $500. With regard to disclosing my personal income statements I show prospects copies of my checks all the time however for the brand new person who is not making a significant income, this would hinder their ability to attract others to the business. When I started a construction business 30 years ago , no one guaranteed me what the income would be if I was sucessful and no one guarnateed my success. There is ample proof that anyone can make money in the Quixtar business, but it depends on the effort you put into the business just like any other business. That is our free enterprise system. In order to stop fraudulent businesses from starting I believe thet the FTC should make the Companies prove that their business model in viable and that people are making money for their efforts. Providing references in the form proposed would be a burden to those who were chosen to be references. I always introduce new prospects to others in my organization, because I believe this shows them the kind of people we work with. However the interaction is voluntary, and is with those who are available at a meeting. I do not violate the privacy of people in my organization. If some one asks for references I will call the reference first and if they agree I will send the prospect to talk to them but I do not burden them with this regularly. The Quixtar business model works for those that put in the effort normally required to be successful in any business. It certainly is not a get rich quick business. I believe the rules it currently operates under are quite sufficient . If only the same rules were enforced on all of the other similar business , there would be no problems, however I see new start ups every month that promise to be better and violate the rules that we operate under to appear better only to be gone in a few years leaving a trail of distruction and lots of distrusting and cynical people behind.
