To whom it may concern at the FTC, I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed changes detailed in the Business Opportunity Rule, R511993. I began my XanGo business 15 months ago on the recommendation of a good friend. He highlighted our product and the benefits of having a business from my home. I was very excited to have a business that I could enter into with minimal overhead and start up costs. In the last 15 months I have seen my business grow at a steady rate and have been able to turn a profit by the end of my first year. The extra income has provide me a way of paying down personal loans at a faster rate. I began a plan last month making higher loan payments which will cut at least 10 years off of my student loan payments! I have also developed skills with this business that are invaluable to me as an individual and how I interact with others and has overlapped into better relationships with my family. I appreciate the concern your organization has. I feel that the proposed changes would be very harmful to individual businesses that currently operate with high standards and would provide less chance for people like myself to get my finances back on track or achieve other life goals. When I look back at the first year of building my business with my associates, we all agree that we would have most likely passed on the business if ideas such as the proposed changes existed at the time. I appreciate your time in reading my concerns. Thank you for your understanding and considerations in your decision making. Dave Portmann
