Comments:
I am writing to express strong opposition to the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I understand that the Federal Trade Commission must protect the public from unfair and deceptive acts or practices, but the rule as proposed would make it very difficult for me to operate my business as a Shaklee Independent Distributor. I joined Shaklee as an Independent distributor about 10 years ago. I only did so after learning more about the company and its products. This is a 50 year old company with a reputation for integrity. There is already enough company information available on the web and in print and in personal testimonies so people can make prudent decisions. If other people or companies are making false claims, go after them and prosecute them fully with existing laws. We don’t like “shysters” giving our business a bad name. If Shaklee finds anyone making false claims about their products or business, their association with Shaklee is severed. Why put onerous rules and regulations on all the honest people who run their businesses according to all the company and governmental rules? The proposed rules would just require more government and company and personal administrative time, paper and overhead. This ends up in more cost to the consumer and taxpayers. Spend your time and money on finding and prosecuting the “bad apples” instead of monitoring and burdening the vast majority of honest people. I work 40 hours a week for a corporation. I do not have the time to do all the extra work this new Regulation or Rule would entail. People are very wary about their personal information being passed to other people. My business is growing very slowly as is and probably would not grow at all if new distributors would have to go through all this legal stuff with little privacy. I am 63 years old and planning on my future income in Shaklee to help in my retirement years. Please do not make this more difficult or impossible for me. Thank you for considering my comments.
