While I understand the concern posed by unscrupulous individuals praying on unaware consumers, I disagree with the actions suggested by the FTC. I have been closely involved with two "MLM" or network marketing companies. Both times, I have seriously considered the opportunity as I believe in the products and the companies behind them. These companies are upstanding companies with integrity. It pains me to see an undue burden placed upon these companies in the name of fraud protection. The fraudsters will easily find a way to circumvent these procedures or ignore them altogether, while law abiding companies and individuals will suffer a terrible burden. I am reminded of how small businesses were burdened with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation until it was realized that there was undue burden. Please reconsider the tenor of this legislation. Think about all the success stories this legislation will prevent. The number will far surpass the number of fraud it will thwart.
