Dear Sir or Madam: I am writing this letter because I am concerned about the proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993. I believe that in its presented form, it could prevent me from continuing as a sales consultant in network marketing. I have been involved in the MLM industry for 15 years and it has made a huge impact on my family lifestyle and personal income. I have found that the quality of the products is far superior to most of the comparative products found at retail stores. The fairness of the product guarantee goes beyond the usual hassle to return merchandise at a retail store. This ridiculous rule will result in giving people the idea that this industry is somehow unscrupulous and not to be trusted.This would also reflect on me in that maybe I should not be believed. It appears that the FTC is attempting to force unnecessary rules and legislation that can only do harm to this growing industry. The result will be to limit our ability financially support ourselves. This is my retirement mechanism, the Social Security system is not going to provide support for this. PLEASE DO NOT PLAY POLITICS WITH THE MILLIONS OF CITIZEN’S USING THIS INDUSTRY. Finally, the proposed rule requires the disclosure of a minimum of 10 prior purchasers nearest to the prospective purchaser. I am glad to provide references, but in this day of identity theft, I am very uncomfortable giving out the personal information of individuals (without their approval) to strangers. Women in my organization may be subject to sexual or racial harassment so this part can’t go in at all, unless the FTC passes an addition to this rule Prohibiting sexual or racial attacks related to this disclosure. In the end the rule must bind the FTC to take direct enforcement action on sexual and racial attacks with a special unit assigned to monitor actions related to the disclosure forms. This will result in another bureaucracy that I have confidence will work with the efficiency that destroys confidence in our government. I am a good American citizen and decorated Army war veteran and it will hurt me. Thank you and please help me.
