Dear Sir or Madam, I am very concerned that if this proposed Business Opportunity Rule R511993 is adopted in its present form, my livelihood as a Nature's Sunshine distributor will be significantly undermined. Why is the government interfering in free enterprise? Isn't what this country stands for? This is actually getting scary! The company I use is Nature's Sunshine, a vitamin and herb company. People become members to get their products at wholesale prices - which makes it affordable for people at a time when so many people have lost their health insurance or cannot even GET health insurance like MYSELF because I have diabetes and no one will insure me! I rely on supplements to save my own life. So now you want to prohibit me from helping myself in my business? Nobody holds a gun to someones head and MAKES them become a member. They WANT to become one. You don't have to purchase anything if you don't want. Why are you becoming involved in a company like this??? I have helped people save money on their vitamins since 1989 and because of this I have also earned an income. So now you want to take this away from me??? Let's see, my health insurance was taken away (my friends also have the same problem, and these are not the uneducated people by the way) and now you want to make it so hard and unrealistic to do a simple business. OK, I'll quit my job and the government can pay me unemployment - or maybe I'll just become indigent - at least I'll get health isurance and food for free-is that what you want?? I'm not looking for a handout - just let me do my job - PLEASE. There is no American Dream anymore. I'm pretty fed up and disappointed with this government to tell you the truth. There are so many injustices in the whole system and this rule is just one more. While I appreciate the FTC needs to protect the public where necessary, this proposed rule, as far as my Nature's Sunshine business goes is just ridiculous! No one is required to purchase large sums of products or spend large sums of money to join Nature's Sunshine. Maybe some other companies do that, but why should I be punished when ours does not do that? The seven day waiting period is unnecessary and will interfere with my ability to enter lawful transactions and enroll new distributors. People can buy cars, computers, etc. without this ridiculous waiting period. So, do you think by creating burdensome paperwork, which will not even be read by the public and making it extremely difficult for the individual partcipant to fully comply, thereby risking fines and other penalties for such failures, however innocent, a good thing? By these actions, the FTC does a disservice to the consuming public and Americans everywhere who are trying to get ahead by starting their own business, or earning necessary supplemental income to help support their family. I believe this new rule has many unintended consequences. The public is not being well served by the FTC overregulation of an industry that is causing absolutely no harm and more than adequately polices itself by remedying any and all complaints. Nature's Sunshine complies with all applicable buy back requirements and always makes it easy for the individual to exit the company. Just stop purchasing products - that's it. How hard is that? American jobs have left this country and has caused a hardship on families. The minimum wage hasn't been raised in 7 years, while all the fat cats in government get their raises every year. Many people talk about their hardships, so I know what is going on out there. Get off your high horse and see what the "little man" is dealing with. If you did, you would have at least a shred of consciousness and help your fellow man instead of looking for ways to hinder him and put him down even further. If there is fraud out there, prosecute those people and leave the innocent alone - please!
