We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your proposed rules for the US Business Opportunities. We appreciate the difficulty in insuring a business climate where free enterprise can flourish and individuals can use legitimate business opportunities to provide for their families and achieve financial security and at the same time protect people from fraudulent schemes and high cost franchises. As independent business owners affiliated with Quixtar we're concerned about some of the proposed rules and the effect they would have on our businesses. We feel that fewer rules and more enforcement of existing laws is the better solution. We have been affiliated with Quixtar, formerly known as Amway since 1973. It has been our primary source of income since 1980. It has provided us with a very comfortable lifestyle and financial freedom. We have worked very hard in building a successful business. Under some of the proposed rules we sincerely don't believe we could have built a business that would provide for our family the way the business has. We have always believed in reasonable business disclosures that help prospects make wise choices. When we share the business opportunity with others we always let them know that work is involved and there are not guarantees. We have always shared with prospects that they could cancel their association in a reasonable time. Of course, there is a reasonable annual renewal fee and we all have the option of whether we renew. The corporation has provided us with a reasonable disclosure form called a SA4400 and insists on its use. We feel that this is the only disclosure that should be required. We are respectfully opposed to all the other proposed rules. We feel that they are too intrusive. We don't feel that we could have built the business we have with these restrictions and seriously question whether we could continue to support our family with these restrictions.
